Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president who was ousted by the Katonga faction on Tuesday, says he is ready to fight the party’s founding president, Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Amuriat said during an interview on KFM’s hot seat on Tuesday that he has lost all the respect he had for founding president Kizza Besigye and that they have the capacity to move the party forward with or without him.
“I had a lot of respect for our founding president, Dr. Kizza Besigye, but I’m also known to be a man of my own who can’t be a bootlicker for anybody. We have the capacity to group and move forward with or without Besigye,” he said.
Amuriat further branded FDC Chairman Wasswa Birigwa as a comedian, questioned his upbringing, and claimed he (Birigwa) is not about to stop climbing walls like he did on Tuesday in order to access Besigye’s offices.
“I really wonder if this 75-year-old man will stop this comedy. I don’t know what his upbringing taught him, but I think it is his nature. The wall in Katonga will not be the last for him to climb,” he added.
Amuriat was ousted from office by the Besigye faction during their delegates conference held on September 19, 2023, at Besigye’s offices on Katonga Road. Amuriat was replaced by Erias Lukwago as interim president.
However, Amuriat says the conference at which he was ousted was illegal and that nothing will change since it was a contempt of a court order.
“Nothing is going to happen. We know that the meeting in Katonga is a fallacy and a contempt of a court order issued on Monday. They have no powers to decide, even if there is no court order against their conference,” he said.
Amuriat revealed that lawyers from his faction and ousted secretary general Nandala Mafabi are working on a case against individuals that organized the September 19, 2023, delegates conference. According to Amuriat, they will have their national executive committee elections on October 16, 2023, and he will be running to retain his office.
