Newly appointed Minister of State for Relief and Disaster Preparedness Lillian Aber and Minister of State for Youth and Children Balaam Barugahara have pledged to focus on their new tasks in the cabinet.

The staunch Muhoozi Kainerugaba mobilizers under the Patriotic League of Uganda  civic group stressed that they will serve in their new capacities without divided loyalties.

Barugahara noted that he is not in cabinet to recruit youths to the Patriotic League of Uganda headed by Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba but rather address the problem of unemployment among young people.

“I am not in Cabinet to recruit the youths for the MK Project, already the MK Project has over 21 million young people and MK or PLU as you may call it, we aren’t a political party. We are a civic organization that is aimed at patriotism, spreading love for the country. It is a very civic organization where I encourage each one of you to join so my being appointed Minister, I have come to fix and address challenges affecting young people,” he said while addressing journalists at Parliament following his vetting by the appointments committee.

Barugahara announced that his focus will be to skill youths according to based on resources in their respective regions.

“The young people have 4-5 challenges, they make 75% of the population however, out of the 75%, 83% of those young people they are unskilled, uneducated and unemployed and of that, only 17% are skilled. So, my role will be advocating for skilling but we don’t have to skill people for everyone to be skilling for making bricks, chapatti and etc. Each sub-region has its core, Karamoja has minerals, so the youths in Karamoja should be skilled in mining. Bunyoro has oil, our youths in Bunyoro should do more of oil and gas, the youths in Buganda are good coffee farmers,”  he said.

On the other hand, Aber stressed that she will focus on her tasks as assigned and vowed not to be blinded by intrigue.

“My area of Relief and Disaster Preparedness it is a very taxing area, I have the energy, I will move around the country to handle the issues of disaster in collaboration with my bosses. I am one person who doesn’t breed conflict and one thing I can assure you, I am not going into that Ministry for any petty fights, I am going to perform my duties and deliver services as assigned by my boss,” Aber stated.
