Get your eyes off 2026, remove Museveni now! — Besigye

Former Forum for Democratic Change president Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye has asked Ugandans to back him in removing President Yoweri Museveni before 2026. 

While addressing Mbarara residents, Besigye who is holding country wide mobilisation meetings, stated that Ugandans should not focus on the 2026 General Elections but removing Museveni once and for all. 

“Please get your eyes off 2026 and we get out of this situation once and for all,” he said. 

Besigye stated that he is 68 years of age, and it will be unfortunate to celebrate his 70th birthday before rescuing Ugandans from what he described as captivity. 

“Do you know how many Ugandans are dying of hunger and lack of hospitals?” He asked. 

“We have toiled alot, been in and out of prison. Do you want me to get to 70 years in this same situation? I want you to understand that we’re coming. This is the where Museveni comes from, let him know that we’re coming!”

Besigye also noted that he will not be contesting in the 2026 presidential elections with his hope that Ugandans will unite before then and remove president Yoweri Museveni from power.

Besigye is leading a faction of the FDC reportedly consulting on forming a new political party after losing control of the party he founded to party president Patrick Amuriat and secretary general Nandala Mafabi. 

The FDC bosses were accused of receiving money from President Yoweri President Yoweri Museveni to finance the 2021 election campaign. 

Amuriat and Nandala denied the accusations but also declined to explain the source of money used in the campaign noting that it would amount to betrayal of their funders and secret funders.
