Embattled National Unity Platform bigwig Mathias Mpuuga has sought the audience of Buganda Kingdom Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga, April 3, at Bulange Palace, Mengo in Kampala.

Accompanied by fellow legislator Medard Ssegona, the duo held a meeting with Mayiga at Mengo.

On social media platform, X, Mpuuga stated that he led a delegation from the Nyendo-Mukungwe constituency which he represents in Parliament to show solidarity to Buganda Kingdom ahead of the famous Kabaka Birthday Run, a charity marathon in Kampala.

“The people of Nyendo-Mukungwe Division have this morning paid homage to the seat of Buganda Kingdom to show solidarity and support the Kabaka’s initiatives, especially the upcoming Kabaka Birthday Run,” he posted on X.

However, observers suggest Mpuuga is consulting on his next course of action after falling out with NUP bosses including party president over alleged corruption.

While NUP accuses Mpuuga of allocating himself Shs500m as a service award in a meeting allegedly chaired by Speaker Rt Hon Anita Among where Shs1.7bn was shared by the commissioners with NRM commissioners taking Shs400m.

After the minutes of the meeting became public recently, NUP asked Mpuuga to resign as Commissioner to Parliament, apologize and return the money.

However, Mpuuga denied any wrongdoing and accused the party of nepotism, witch-hunt, blackmail, sexual harassment, among others.

On the other hand, a delegation of NUP led by Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also paid a courtesy visit to Mayiga in Mengo ahead of the Kabaka Birthday Run. The Buganda Premier advised the parties to hold dialogue and exercise patience in leadership.

Following, the meeting, NUP bosses threw caution to the wind and have since fired Mpuuga from his position as Deputy president in charge of Buganda political region.
