The Uganda Bureau of Statistics has released partial results of the recently concluded 2024 National Population Census.
The activity happening at Serena today has reported that the population of Uganda is 45.9million. This is a steep increase from the 34.6 million reported by 2014 by the same body.
Among the startling results are the facts that Uganda has 22.4 million males and 23.4 million females.
The same report 2024 has indicated that 50.5% of the population is between zero to seventeen years, and 22.7% are between 18-30 years.
The Dr. Chris Mukiza, Executive Director of UBOS announced that the average household is 4.4 people, down from 4.7 people in 2014. In his speech, he implored the government to turn the census numbers released to improve Ugandans’ livelihoods. “Make data-driven decisions that benefit communities, boost the economy, and propel our nation forward.”
President Yoweri Museveni who attended the function as the chief guest implored Ugandans to “get rid of the old superstitions about census.”
Mukiza revealed that UBOS faced challenges in the census, “including hard-to-reach areas, gated households, unavailable correspondents and outright refusals.”
