Raymond Bintukwanga has been missing since the night of Friday 26th July 2024. This is according to his workmates at Weka Africa who have issued a press release demanding that security produces him either in court, or releases him to his relatives.

“Bintukwanga Raymond, a Human Rights Activist, was abducted by unknown gunmen (suspected state operatives) along Bukoto-Kisaasi Road at 8:00 PM.” The statement reads in part.

It adds, “While returning home with colleagues, Raymond was called by name by two armed men standing by the roadside and then dragged into a waiting car. A struggle ensued, and Raymond was forcefully pulled into the vehicle. One of his colleagues attempted to record the incident, but an abductor destroyed the phone before speeding off.”

Bintukwanga has participated in various protests against government policy. He was last arrested protesting at parliament against the Anti-gay law and released on a plea-bargain under the charge of being a public nuisance.

On Friday before his arrest, his WhatsApp status called on the public to register with him for the protests on parliament against corruption.

The protests are forbidden by the Museveni regime, as the Commander in Chief has twice warned the country against them, saying that the organizers are planning bad things, and that those who participate are playing with fire.

Agora Discourse, a “Digital Public Square Promoting Human Rights, Public Accountability and Social Justice” has put up a list of the arrested since the start of the protests on 23rd July 2024, and updates the list daily.

On the day following his abduction, it posted on X that it had received communication that he had been abducted by a drone from Kisaasi.

Hundreds of Ugandans have been arrested publicly, abducted or kidnapped since the start of the #March2Parliament protests on July 23rd.

Yesterday, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) activists who were picked from Kisumu on training activities were remanded on charges of terrorism.
