“This criminal regime is predictable! … we just received a letter, on behalf of the ministry of defense informing us that the National Unity Platform cannot use Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, because apparently, there are ongoing infrastructural developments!”

“… effectively, these public grounds are only available for use by everyone who worships Gen. Museveni and his regime!”

National Unity Platform (NUP) President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has this afternoon fired vitriol at the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs for denial of rights to hold the party’s fourth anniversary at the Kololo Independence Grounds.

The NUP had asked the Ministry of Defense permission to hold their anniversary rally in a 09th July letter addressed to the permanent secretary of the ministry.

“We have decided to hold an event to commemorate four years since the unveiling of our party on the 22nd July, 2024. The event is organized under the theme; “Four Years of NUP: The Milestones, the Obstacles Encountered and a Glance into the Future.”

A week later, on July 16, 2024, in a response shared by Bobi Wine on his X handle, the permanent secretary declined the permission owing to construction works going on at the ceremonial grounds.

“We acknowledge receipt of your letter ref: NUP/ADM/061/2024 dated 09th July 2024 requesting to use Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to commemorate Four Years since the unveiling of the National Unity Platform scheduled for 22nd July, 2024.

However, due to the ongoing infrastructural development at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, we regret to inform you that the grounds will not be available for your event.” The letter signed by Kallu Sam, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary read.

Kololo Independence grounds have played host to various political and entertainment events over the recent past, and it is on these grounds that the NUP party requested to also have their event.

Indeed, Margherita News has confirmed that there are some construction projects ongoing at the requested venue.

However, these projects did not stop the Yoweri Museveni’s own rally on July 5th at the same venue to celebrate his achievements for 40 years.
