US President Joe Biden has confirmed testing positive for COVID 19.

The 81-year-old posted on X; “I tested positive for COVID-19 this afternoon, but I am feeling good and thank everyone for the well wishes. I will be isolating as I recover, and during this time I will continue to work to get the job done for the American people.”

Joe Biden was a pro-vax champion in the zenith days of the disease, as opposed to his opponent and then-president Donald Trump.

While in office, the latter also tested positive for the disease, but was quick to dismiss it as weak for his body.

The positive test has caused a new effort from some members of the Democratic Party to have him relinquish party flag in the race for the white house this November.

The BBC reports that the top two democrats in the US Congress, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries both met Biden to express concern over his candidacy.

The BBC adds that Nancy Pelosi, the influential former House Speaker also told him that he cannot beat Trump in the November election.

After his dismal performance in the June 27th debate, a significant section of the democratic party has piled pressure on him to resign and the party gets a new leader for the race. The elderly politician has been adamant however, and had promised to lead his party to victory.

The recent attempted assassination of Donald Trump, his challenger, also led to a surge in the Republican candidate’s popularity.

Biden has tested positive for COVID 19 twice before.
