The Deputy Press Secretary to the President Farouk Kirunda has released a tentative program for the burial of former Presidential Press Secretary, Joseph Tamale Mirundi.

Today, August 14, 2024, the country woke to the sad news of the death of journalist and political commentator Joseph Tamale Mirundi.

Tamale had been ailing for about a month, and admitted at Kisubi Hospital.

In the wake of the news, the country has been mourning him for hours now.  Speaker of Parliament Anita Among eulogized Mirundi as a friend, and praised his significant contribution to the country as a journalist, civil servant and political commentator.

“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend, Joseph Tamale Mirundi. As a journalist, civil servant, and social-political commentator, Mirundi made significant contributions to his country, and his loss leaves a great void. My sympathies go out to counsel John Mirundi, the entire family, his friends, and relatives. May his soul rest in peace.”  Anita Annet Among, X.

Mirundi passed on at the age of 60 years, allegedly due to lung-related complications.

He was the longest-serving press secretary to the president, having replaced the Late John Nagenda and was succeeded by his deputy, Linda Nabusayi in July 2015. He was then appointed as Senior Advisor to the President, a cabinet-level position.

His exit was acrimonious and he continually boasted of how he refused to take up the new office space which was situated next to his enemy, at the president’s office.  Mirundi was allegedly framed from office over his support and praise for Amama Mbabazi, Museveni’s challenger in the 2016 election.

He was allegedly hounded out after a forged tape was played for the president in a heated meeting that lasted hours, in mid-2015.
