President Yoweri Museveni officially commissiones the 132kV Mirama-Kabale Transmission Line, an 83.75 million US dollar investment aimed at stabilizing electricity supply, increasing rural electrification, and fostering industrial growth.

The project, which extends 85km from Mirama to Kabale, southwestern Uganda is a significant infrastructure development backed by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

Speaking at the launch, President Museveni underscored the importance of reliable electricity in driving economic progress.

“Industrialization is the backbone of economic growth. Without stable electricity, industries cannot thrive, businesses suffer, and opportunities are lost. This transmission line is part of our broader strategy to power Uganda’s development and improve the livelihoods of our people,” Museveni stated.

Southwestern Uganda has long faced power supply inconsistencies, hindering both urban and rural economic activities.

The completion of this transmission line is expected to support industrialization by providing stable electricity to industries, factories and businesses in Kabale, Rukiga, Ntungamo, and neighboring districts.

The project aims to improve livelihoods by enabling access to modern services such as healthcare, education, and digital connectivity through reliable electricity.

The government in collaboration with IsDB, prioritized fair compensation for affected individuals during project implementation.

Out of 2,529 project-affected persons, a total of 2,467 have already been compensated, a move that has helped to resolve disputes over land acquisition.

The Mirama-Kabale Transmission Line forms a crucial part of Uganda’s Vision 2040, a national development blueprint focused on modernizing infrastructure, enhancing energy access, and fostering sustainable economic growth by boosting power reliability in southwestern Uganda.

The project complements other ongoing energy initiatives, further solidifying the country’s industrialization and electrification agenda.

Uganda is making significant strides toward self-sufficiency in power generation and distribution, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in industrialization and rural electrification.
