National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has hailed the people of Kawempe for standing strong against what he calls state-sponsored oppression following a highly contested electoral process involving Nalukoola Luyimbazi, the NUP candidate.

Bobi Wine described the events surrounding the election as unprecedented in Uganda’s 40-year history accusing the government of unleashing intimidation, abductions and outright electoral sabotage to suppress opposition participation.

Despite the deployment of security forces, theft of candidate documents and harassment of Nalukoola on nomination day, he claims the state’s actions only fueled the people’s determination.

“This was not about Nalukoola, it was about you the people of Kawempe. Congratulations to you. This is unprecedented in the last 40 years of Museveni. The deployment of all weapons of war, the documents of the candidates were stolen and his assistant abducted. He was also harassed on his nomination day. Little did they know that they were charging him. He gave us a good commander after all what he went through,” said Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine spoke in celebration of what he sees as the people’s victory addressing both his supporters and the government.

He argues that the repression and impunity demonstrated during the election are symptoms of a dictatorship fearing its downfall. He warns that the oppressed Ugandans will soon reach their breaking point leading to a mass resistance against the government.

“Am warning you Museveni and your criminal regime to stop taking the silence of Ugandans for cowardice. The oppressed people shall reach a breaking point and resist impunity and oppression,” said Bobi wine.

Through public mobilization and political defiance, NUP plans to continue challenging state injustices. Bobi Wine is demanding that all political prisoners be released unconditionally and that the government accounts for Ugandans who have been abducted by security forces.

“I demand all Ugandans who were abducted by the regime security forces must be accounted for and the political prisoners to be released unconditionally,” Bobi wine added

His fierce warning to President Museveni is not just a story, it signals a growing frustration among opposition supporters many of whom believe the government is ruling through fear and force rather than democracy.

One of the biggest points of argument is Bobi Wine’s demand for accountability on missing Ugandans. Over the past few years, hundreds of opposition supporters have allegedly been abducted, often by plain-clothed security operatives in drones (unmarked vans). Some resurface in military detention centers while others are never seen again.
