In Kalisizo town council Kyotera District, NRM Ministers and MPs, led by Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo launched the ‘Buganda for Museveni’ campaign.
The initiative, which was attended by key government figures including Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa and NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja seeks to secure at least 80% of the Buganda vote for President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Buganda has long been a political battleground with the opposition gaining significant traction in past elections. However, NRM strategists believe they can reclaim dominance in the region framing Museveni as the only leader capable of ensuring stability and economic progress.
“The mission is real and achievable,” declared Hon. Kasolo, emphasizing that the party will mobilize every village and household to secure a decisive win.
The rally saw hundreds of supporters clad in yellow, chanting pro-NRM slogans and pledging allegiance to the ruling party.
“Kyotera, your energy and unwavering support today have filled me with immense hope and pride,” Kasolo posted on social media after the event.
While the campaign aims to reignite Buganda’s support for Museveni, opposition argue that similar promises have been made before without real change.
Infrastructure gaps, youth unemployment and land disputes remain pressing issues in the region. The opposition has already dismissed the initiative as a desperate attempt to cling to power questioning whether the ruling party will genuinely address Buganda’s concerns or simply focus on securing votes.
With less than a year to the general elections, the battle for Buganda’s vote has officially begun. As NRM pushes for 80%, opposition parties are equally mobilizing to counter the narrative.
