The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially rescheduled the nationwide Display of the National Voters’ Register and Registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that involves the Youths, Individuals with Disabilities and Older People.

The exercise will now run from 25th April to 15th May 2025, moved from the initially scheduled 17th April to 8th May timeline due to logistical and administrative adjustments as the country prepares for high-stakes general elections.

The announcement, signed by EC Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon and emphasizes the EC’s legal mandate under Article 61(1)(e) of the Constitution and Sections 18 and 20 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176) to compile, maintain and update the National Voters Register.

This adjusted timeline is an essential moment for Uganda’s democratic process. The display of the Voters Register is one of the most vital pre-election activities allowing citizens to verify their information, object to anomalies and ensure their names are correctly included in the final register used on polling day.

Every Ugandan eligible to vote in the 2025/2026 General Elections including members of SIGs are urged to take this exercise seriously.

Political parties, civil society organizations, religious leaders and local government officials are also expected to mobilize participation and monitor the process.

The exercise will take place at designated parish locations across all districts. Citizens will be able to inspect registers, raise complaints about inconsistencies and receive guidance from EC officials on the spot.

Each parish will host a display centre with copies of the relevant registers including those for SIGs.

“The Electoral Commission appeals to all stakeholders in the electoral process to participate in the display of the Voters Register and follow the guidelines that will be issued for the exercise,” said Justice Byabakama in the press statement.
