Patriotic League of Uganda Announces June 5 Demonstration at German Embassy

Kampala, Uganda – The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has announced plans to stage a massive and energetic demonstration at the German Embassy in Kampala on June 5, 2025.

This move, declared publicly on X (formerly Twitter) by Hon. Daudi Kabanda, comes days after the Ugandan Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs issued a strongly worded statement accusing German Ambassador Matthias Schauer of undiplomatic activities and alleged interference in Uganda’s internal affairs.

“The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) shall hold an energetic demonstration at the German Embassy on 5th June, 2025,” tweeted Kabanda. “Details will be availed in due course.”

At the heart of this upcoming protest are accusations from Uganda’s security and intelligence services that certain European diplomatic missions, with Germany allegedly taking the lead, have been providing funding and logistical support to groups deemed traitorous and destabilizing by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.

The government’s official statement, signed by Colonel Chris Magezi of the UPDF, claimed that these foreign-backed groups are part of a broader effort to incite rebellion, fuel economic sabotage, and manipulate Uganda’s youth through radicalization in urban slums.

The German ambassador was singled out in the statement, with intelligence sources accusing him of violating the 1961 Vienna Convention, which governs diplomatic conduct between nations.

While Germany has not publicly responded to the claims, tension between the two nations is visibly escalating.

The Patriotic League of Uganda, a vocal and increasingly influential political movement aligned with President Yoweri Museveni’s camp, has taken it upon itself to defend Uganda’s sovereignty by organizing public resistance against what they term neo-colonial interference.

PLU’s planned protest is expected to rally nationalist sentiments and draw support from government-aligned youth groups, activists, and political leaders who believe foreign influence is a direct threat to Uganda’s political stability and independence.

The demonstration is scheduled to take place at the German Embassy in Kampala is a highly symbolic location given the current allegations. While the PLU has not yet released logistical details, expectations are high that the demonstration will be well-organized, media-heavy, and potentially confrontational.

The announcement has already sparked debate within diplomatic circles, with some human rights observers warning that the protest, if not carefully managed, could further inflame diplomatic tensions and put Uganda’s international relations under scrutiny.

Meanwhile, security agencies are expected to maintain a heavy presence to prevent any possible breach of diplomatic premises.

Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet confirmed whether the protest will be sanctioned or whether any formal communication has been made with the German Embassy regarding the matter.

This latest development adds another twist to Uganda’s already unstable political landscape. With general elections just months away, the narrative of foreign meddling, whether substantiated or not, is being wielded as a powerful tool by the ruling establishment to consolidate power.
