Four-time presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye, currently incarcerated, is set to deliver the keynote address at the official launch of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Katonga, Kampala, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Acting spokesperson Hon. Ssemujju says the event will mark a rare moment of hearing a prisoner speak to the world.

Kampala, Uganda – The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) is preparing for a monumental moment in its short but rapidly growing history.

According to the acting party spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju, the party will officially launch next Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Kampala, with an estimated 1,000+ delegates expected to attend the high-stakes event.

“This launch is not just ceremonial. It is a declaration that a new political force has arrived focused on genuine liberation, social justice, and people-centered leadership,” Ssemujju said during a press briefing.

The venue for the official unveiling is expected to attract party leaders, political activists, youth groups, civil society actors, and former legislators from across Uganda’s four regions.

Organisers say the event will feature speeches from founding members, unveil party leadership structures, and officially release the PFF party constitution and manifesto.

This is PFF’s first major public showcase since its formation earlier this year. The movement, seen by analysts as an alternative force to the more established opposition parties like the NUP and FDC, has been gaining traction in urban centers and among Uganda’s politically awakened youth.

Led by prominent opposition figures like Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Dr. Kizza Besigye, Ssemujju Nganda, among others, PFF has positioned itself as a progressive, rights-based movement committed to fighting authoritarianism, corruption, and economic exclusion.

Four-time presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye, currently incarcerated, is set to deliver the keynote address at the official launch of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Katonga, Kampala, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 as Ssemujju says the event will mark a rare moment of hearing a prisoner speak to the world.

The July 8 event is expected to set the tone for PFF’s entry into national politics with a clear message: real change is not a slogan it’s a movement.

“We’re not here to add noise to the opposition. We are here to reorganize, to re-energize, and to reclaim power for the people,” Ssemujju declared.

With the expected turnout and rising political temperature in the country, security agencies are likely to monitor the launch closely. Uganda’s political opposition has in recent years faced harassment, arrests, and disruptions during large gatherings, a reality PFF organizers say they are preparing for.

However, Ssemujju emphasized that the party has notified all necessary authorities and is determined to hold a peaceful, legal event that adheres to the Public Order Management Act.

As Uganda inches closer to the 2026 general election, the PFF is likely to become one of the most watched political players, especially if it succeeds in consolidating disenchanted opposition members, frustrated independents, and first-time voters hungry for change.
