Kampala, Uganda – National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has launched a mocking critique against members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) who are now protesting electoral fraud within their party’s just-concluded primaries.
In a strongly worded social media post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday evening, Bobi Wine accused NRM politicians of hypocrisy, saying they are now victims of the same electoral malpractice they have long defended or ignored.
“They bred and raised the very serpent which is eating them up now,” he wrote. “The same impunity which they have shielded and defended all along is catching up with them.”
His remarks come amidst escalating chaos in NRM primaries held last week to select flag bearers for the 2026 parliamentary elections.
Reports of violence, voter bribery, underage voting, and register inflation have emerged from districts such as Jinja, Kamuli, Mbale, and Namutumba.
Several candidates, including former ministers and sitting MPs, have petitioned the party’s Electoral Commission, accusing election officials of declaring losing candidates as winners after being bribed.
Bobi Wine reminded the public that many of the aggrieved NRM members had previously celebrated or remained silent during alleged electoral injustices suffered by opposition candidates.
“They rejoiced when NRM carried out its activities unhindered while our activities were blocked with the greatest impunity,” he noted, referencing incidents in Kayunga, Soroti, and Omoro, where opposition efforts were met with violence or state interference.
He further criticized the NRM MPs for supporting the recently passed UPDF Amendment Bill, which strengthens the military’s role in internal affairs, including elections.
NUP president urged all Ugandans, regardless of party, region, or religion, to unite in demanding true electoral reform and justice.
“It is time for all patriotic citizens to fight for ELECTORAL INTEGRITY across political parties,” he wrote. “We can do it. #FreeUganda.”
Since the 2021 general elections, which Bobi Wine maintains were fraudulently won by President Yoweri Museveni, he has consistently called for an independent electoral audit and demilitarization of politics.
His latest statement appears to reflect a growing discontent even within NRM ranks, as the party struggles to manage internal fallout ahead of the 2026 general polls.
