Entebbe, Uganda – A sense of shock and grief has gripped the Lugonjo-Nakiwogo Cell community in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District, following the gruesome murder of an elderly couple inside their own home.

The victims identified as Mutaaga David (69) and his wife, Deborah Florence Mutaaga (62), who were found dead with multiple stab wounds on Sunday, July 6, 2025, in what police suspect was a double homicide linked to aggravated robbery.

A couple who had just retired from broad (kyeyo) after over 30 years in Zurich, Switzerland, were murdered at their retirement home in Entebbe.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, police were tipped off by a domestic worker attached to the household, who suspected that something had gone terribly wrong inside the couple’s residence.

“The territorial police in Entebbe Division responded swiftly to the call. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of the couple with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds,” Owoyesigyire stated.

Police immediately cordoned off the scene and began documenting the crime scene and collecting forensic evidence.

Preliminary observations indicate a violent attack, but investigators are keeping the motive under wraps for now.

The bodies of the victims were transported to the City Mortuary in Mulago for a postmortem examination, which officials say will aid the ongoing inquiries.

“We have recovered several exhibits of evidential value that are now undergoing forensic analysis,” Owoyesigyire added.

The incident has sparked public outrage and fear, particularly among residents of Lugonjo who say the area has seen a surge in crime in recent months.

In a strongly worded statement, the Uganda Police Force condemned the terrible act and promised swift justice for the slain couple.

“We condemn this act in the strongest terms and wish to reassure the public that we are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice,” said Owoyesigyire.

As of this morning, no arrests have been made, but the police confirmed that efforts are actively underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.

The motive remains under investigation, though detectives are not ruling out the possibility of a planned robbery gone wrong.

Local leaders and community members have urged authorities to increase patrols and surveillance, especially in vulnerable suburban areas like Lugonjo.

Neighbours have described the couple as kind, hardworking, and deeply respected in their community.

The police have promised frequent updates as investigations progress. Residents are being encouraged to report any suspicious individuals or activities in the area to aid the ongoing manhunt.

This incident comes at a time when concerns over urban safety are rising, with many Ugandans calling for more proactive community policing and accountability from security forces.
