Kadaga Leads Kamuli NRM Aspirants to Petition Electoral Commission

Kampala, Uganda – First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga today accompanied a group of National Resistance Movement (NRM) aspirants from Kamuli District to the party’s Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala, demanding redress over what they termed as irregularities in the just concluded MP flagbearer elections.

Kadaga, who also serves as Kamuli District Woman MP, said she was standing with aspirants from Bugabula North and Buzaya constituencies, claiming that their votes were not counted properly.

“These candidates have not had their results tallied properly, and we are here to ensure their voices are heard,” Kadaga told journalists at the Commission premises.

Kadaga’s appearance comes at a time when discontent is sweeping through the NRM following last week’s party primaries.

Aspirants in various regions have alleged vote rigging, delayed vote counting, electoral violence, and bias from local officials.

Districts such as Mbale, Gulu, Luweero, and Sembabule have already registered heated disputes, with losing candidates vowing to petition the Commission and some hinting at running as independents if justice is not served.

The NRM Electoral Commission, chaired by Dr. Tanga Odoi, officially opened its doors this week to receive petitions from aggrieved aspirants.

“We are ready to receive and review all petitions. Justice will be served where necessary.”

With the 2026 General Elections approaching, political analysts believe the way the NRM handles these petitions will test its internal democratic processes and determine the party’s unity ahead of national nominations.

“Failure to address these complaints transparently could fracture the party, especially in competitive constituencies where support is volatile,” noted political analyst Sarah Abenaitwe.
