National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has officially released a notice announcing the 1st meeting of the 4th National Conference, to be held from 27th to 28th August 2025 at the Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds, under the theme: “Building a Shared Prosperity: Investing in Uganda’s Future.”

The notice, issued by the Office of the National Chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, outlines a critical agenda that will shape the NRM’s political direction ahead of the

2026 Presidential Flag Bearer to be Confirmed

One of the most significant agenda items, as per the second document signed by President Museveni on 26th July 2025, is the confirmation of the NRM’s 2026 Presidential Flag Bearer.

Political analysts widely expect President Yoweri Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, to be confirmed once again as the NRM’s presidential candidate.

His signature on the document finalizing the agenda items signals a likely return for his seventh consecutive term bid.

Meanwhile, the party is also dealing with post-primary election tensions. The NRM Election Disputes Tribunal has acknowledged receiving 380 electoral petitions challenging the results of the recently concluded parliamentary primary elections.

The Tribunal, chaired by Mr. John Musiime, will begin hearings on Tuesday, 29th July 2025, at Plot 30 Kyadondo Road, starting at 9:00 AM.

The NRM’s Director of Legal Counsel, Enoch Barata, urged all petitioners to ensure proper service of petitions to both the tribunal and respondents in accordance with party guidelines. The hearings are expected to run concurrently with preparations for the August National Conference.

With the confirmation of key leaders, regional flag bearers, and the highly anticipated presidential nominee, the August National Conference is set to be one of the most consequential political events in Uganda’s recent history.

As the opposition parties like NUP begin internal vetting processes, and the NRM finalizes leadership selections, the road to 2026 is heating up with both tension and expectation across the political divide.
