Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), through its spokesperson Mr. Simon Mundeyi, has broken its silence on fraud allegations leveled against one Asiimwe Christian, also known as Don Chris, a man whose name has recently been trending across Ugandan social media in connection with multiple financial scams.
Speaking during a press briefing earlier today, Mundeyi confirmed that the ministry is aware of the complaints surrounding Don Chris and that investigations are ongoing.
“We are reviewing evidence and engaging relevant agencies to determine the extent of the alleged fraud,” Mundeyi stated.
“We call upon any members of the public with information to formally report to police or the Criminal Investigations Directorate.”
While official details remain scant, Don Chris is believed to be a self-proclaimed businessman and social figure, owner of Skypins Tours and Travel Company, accused by several victims of orchestrating online investment scams, fake job promises, and passport processing rackets.
Victims allege they were promised fast-tracked travel documents, lucrative work-abroad opportunities, or entry into non-existent business schemes only to be ghosted after transferring funds.
Don Chris’s name began circulating widely after multiple individuals shared testimonies on X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Facebook, claiming to have been defrauded by the same individual under different schemes.
Mr. Mundeyi used the opportunity to warn Ugandans about the rising tide of cyber fraud and individual conmen posing as immigration fixers or job agents.
“The public is advised to be extremely cautious when dealing with individuals who promise shortcuts to government services. Do not pay anyone unofficially for passports, visas, or jobs,” he emphasized.
While no arrests have yet been confirmed, law enforcement authorities say they are closing in on key leads and have promised to hold accountable anyone found culpable.
As the number of alleged victims grows, the case of Don Chris could soon become one of Uganda’s most high-profile digital fraud investigations this year.
