Speaker Anita Among Nominated for the 2nd National Vice Chairperson

Kampala, Uganda – Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda, has officially been nominated to contest for the influential position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) in National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, marking a major step in the party’s ongoing preparations for the 2026 General Elections.

Her nomination was confirmed by NRM’s Electoral Commission amid a flurry of activity at the party headquarters in Kampala, as prominent figures line up for strategic positions in what’s already shaping up to be a highly contested electoral season.

Among’s candidacy for the powerful seat further cements her rising political stature within the NRM. As the current Speaker of Parliament, she already plays a central role in Uganda’s legislative processes.

Her bid for the vice chairpersonship reflects a calculated political move to anchor herself deeper within the ruling party’s topmost decision-making structures.

“I am here not just to lead Parliament but to serve the people of Uganda at all fronts, this includes within the party that brought me to power,” Among said.

The 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) is not a ceremonial title. The office holder plays a pivotal role in representing women in the party’s highest organs, shaping policy direction, and supporting the presidential flag bearer, positions that will become more crucial as the 2026 campaign trail intensifies.

Her nomination also sends a message of continuity and loyalty to the party’s chairman, President Yoweri Museveni, who seeks another term as both NRM Presidential Flag Bearer and National Chairperson.

The timing of her nomination could not be more politically charged. With internal party elections heating up and opposition movements like the Democratic Front (DF) and People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) gaining momentum, NRM is mobilizing its most powerful figures to solidify support across the country.

Among’s visibility, particularly in Northern and Eastern Uganda, is seen as a strategic counterbalance to rising opposition figures, many of whom have challenged the ruling party’s dominance in the past few years.

Photos and videos from the nomination venue showed a jubilant crowd clad in NRM yellow, chanting slogans in support of Among. Supporters praised her leadership style, political resilience, and dedication to gender inclusion in governance.

The NRM’s internal election process is expected to culminate in a CEC (Central Executive Committee) decision, with several high-stakes positions being finalized before the national delegates’ conference. Among’s nomination places her squarely in the heart of Uganda’s ruling class at a time when political loyalty, party discipline, and gender representation are under public scrutiny.
