High Court to Rule on Bobi Young’s Bail by Email

Kampala, Uganda – High Court will deliver its ruling on the bail application of Comrade Bobi Young on August 22, 2025 and it won’t be read in open court. Instead, the decision will be sent via email to the parties involved.

National Unity Platform (NUP) confirmed the news on its official channels, vowing to keep up the fight for the release of Bobi Young and all political prisoners.

Bobi Young isn’t just another political detainee, he is one of NUP’s most fearless mobilisers. Known for his courage, sharp voice against injustice, and tireless work to empower young people, he has been a thorn in the side of those who seek to silence dissent.

His arrest earlier this year sparked outrage across Uganda and beyond. Human rights groups have condemned it as a politically motivated move to intimidate the opposition ahead of the 2026 General Election.

Delivering a verdict by email instead of in open court has raised serious questions. Court officials say it’s about efficiency and limiting public gatherings.

“It’s unusual and worrying. High-profile political cases like this are normally read in open court to ensure transparency.”

NUP’s legal team, including MP Shamim Malende, has been relentless in pushing for Bobi Young’s release. Today, she shared:

“We are working together as a team to have our comrade released. Kudos to the NUP legal team.”

On social media, messages of solidarity poured in from activists, citizens, and fellow party members, all calling for justice and freedom.

This isn’t just about Bobi Young, it’s about whether political persecution will continue unchecked in Uganda.

Every delay, every closed-door decision, every unexplained twist adds to the growing concerns about the state of our democracy. This ruling will be a test for the judiciary’s independence.
