Museveni Endorsed as NRM Presidential Flag Bearer

Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially been endorsed by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the party’s National Chairman and Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during the NRM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held today at Kololo, Museveni said the endorsement reflected the party’s continued trust in his leadership.

He outlined the NRM’s achievements since 1986, including peace, stability, and an economy that has expanded from $3.9 billion in 1986 to $66 billion today.

“NRM has ensured peace and stability in Uganda through our principles of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation. We aim for every household to be part of the money economy,” Museveni said.

NEC also proposed names for the party’s Vice Chairpersons, positions that will be decided at the upcoming National Delegates Conference.

Meanwhile, NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region Capt. Mike Mukula, who is seeking re-election, condemned voter bribery in the ongoing Central Executive Committee (CEC) campaigns.

Mukula alleged that some delegates have received between UGX 200,000 and UGX 3 million to influence their votes, warning that such practices risk undermining the credibility and quality of leadership within the ruling party.

“Leadership that is born out of bribery cannot serve the people with integrity. We must safeguard the values of our party by rejecting such tendencies,” Mukula stated.

The remarks come amid heightened internal campaigns within the NRM ahead of its Delegates Conference, which is expected to shape the party’s leadership going into the 2026 polls.
