NRM CEC Candidates Voice Concerns Over Informal Invitations

National Resistance Movement (NRM) is facing calls from within its own ranks to improve communication and organizational readiness ahead of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections scheduled for August 27-28, 2025.

This morning, NRM CEC aspirants were called for a meeting with party officials, but the manner in which some candidates were invited has sparked discontent. Several aspirants claim they only learned of the meeting through social media rather than through official channels.

Among those voicing frustration was Adrine Busigye, a Women’s League chairperson aspirant. Busigye said she was surprised to receive her meeting invitation via social media, calling the method unprofessional and a sign of poor internal coordination.

“This is a party with structures at every level,” Busigye said. “We cannot rely on social media to mobilize candidates for an official meeting. We deserve formal communication, and it should be timely.”

Other aspirants, though less vocal publicly, echoed similar concerns, noting that short notice and informal invitations made it difficult for some candidates to rearrange schedules to attend.

Beyond communication issues, Busigye urged the NRM Secretariat to step up preparations for the upcoming polls. With less than three weeks to go, some members say the party has yet to clearly outline logistical arrangements, voting procedures, and the official timetable for candidate engagements.

“The CEC elections are critical for our party’s unity and direction,” Busigye added. “We cannot afford confusion or disorganization. The process must be transparent and orderly if we are to maintain public trust.”

The August polls will elect members to the NRM’s top decision-making organ, including the chairperson, vice chairpersons for different regions, and the heads of key party leagues such as the Women’s and Youth Leagues.

The Central Executive Committee plays a central role in setting the party’s political agenda, endorsing candidates for national leadership, and steering internal policy decisions. Given its influence, competition for positions is often intense, and internal party harmony is seen as essential for credibility going into national elections.

Political analysts note that poor handling of internal elections can weaken the party’s image and fuel perceptions of favoritism or disorganization. NRM, which has been in power since 1986, faces a growing need to project stability and fairness to both its members and the wider electorate.

NRM officials have not yet publicly addressed the concerns raised over the invitation process. It remains unclear whether the party will issue formal apologies or take steps to ensure all future communications are handled through official channels.

With the August 27–28 elections fast approaching, candidates and supporters will be watching closely to see if the party responds to calls for better organization and clearer election guidelines.

For many, these CEC elections will not only determine the party’s leadership structure for the coming term but also signal how well the NRM can manage its internal affairs in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections.
