Kampala, Uganda – National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially kicked off preparations for the 2026 general elections, with a high-level delegation collecting presidential nomination forms on behalf of incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Led by the party’s First National Vice Chairperson, Al Hajj Moses Kigongo, and Secretary General Richard Todwong, the team picked up the forms today from Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala.

“We have come here to formally collect the nomination forms for our flag bearer, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. NRM is united, and we are preparing to unveil new plans for the country as part of our upcoming manifesto launch,” Todwong said.

The upcoming NRM manifesto, according to Todwong, will focus on “innovative and practical solutions” aimed at boosting economic growth, improving public services, and consolidating national security. Party officials say the document will be central to their campaign message as they seek another term in office.

Under EC regulations, each presidential aspirant must pay a Shs20 million nomination fee and secure 9,800 signatures from at least 98 districts across Uganda within one month. Only those who meet these requirements will proceed to the formal nomination stage.

Museveni’s expected bid for re-election has drawn mixed reactions ahead of the 2026 polls. Supporters cite his political experience and leadership record, while critics argue that continued rule suffocates political transition and weakens democratic change.

Despite the debate, NRM maintains that Museveni remains the most capable candidate to secure a decisive win in both the presidential and parliamentary races.
