The Electoral Commission recorded 20,611 valid votes, 427 rejected ballots, and 67 spoiled ballots, bringing the total number of ballots counted to 21,038.

The results declaration form was signed by Returning Officer Agaba Ronald at the Kalangala District Council Hall in the early hours of June 25.

In accordance with the Parliamentary Elections Act, the returning officer declared Nabayiga the duly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District after obtaining the highest number of valid votes cast.

Her victory follows a competitive campaign that attracted candidates from both major political parties and independent contenders seeking to represent the island district in Parliament.

Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Nabayiga outlined her priorities for Kalangala District, emphasizing the need to address issues affecting residents and to advocate for improved services and development within the island communities.

Details of her policy agenda are expected to emerge in the coming days as she prepares to assume office.

The by-election was closely watched because Kalangala remains one of Uganda’s strategically important districts, comprising a cluster of islands on Lake Victoria with unique challenges in transport, healthcare, education, and economic development.

The outcome strengthens the NRM’s representation in Parliament and gives the party another electoral victory ahead of future political contests.

With the Electoral Commission’s declaration now made, Nabayiga is set to represent Kalangala District in Parliament following her convincing win at the polls.
