Bugweri elders have written to the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among seeking for forgiveness and a meeting with her over the remarks made by National Unity Platform deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro recently.
In the letter dated April 5 by Obwa Menha bwa Bugweri (Bugweri chiefdom) signed by the third deputy prime minister Wugwisa Mwamadi, the chiefdom distanced itself from the Mufumbiro’s statements against Among while at the burial of counsel Waiswa Ramathan in Bugweri district.
“We ministers, sub-county chiefs and clan leaders of Bugweri chiefdom, take our sincere apology on the statement made by Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro during the burial of counsel Waiswa Ramathan,” part of the statement reads.
At the burial, Mufumbiro stole the show as he told off the chief mourner, Among warning her to leave former Rebecca Kadaga out of her political fights.
“For us in Busoga, we are for Kadaga! If there are any issues, don’t accuse Kadaga for things she has not done. Hon Anita Among, don’t back to Bukedi to abuse that woman because she is resting. Leave Kadaga alone. Do your work; misuse tax payers’ money but leave mama Kadaga alone,” he said.
Mufumbiro was reacting to recent statements made by Among in which observers understood as veiled attacks against Kadaga.
At the burial ceremony, Among donated Shs100m to the chiefdom and offered the widow a job in Parliament.
Bugweri elders have since described Mufumbiro’s statements as “uncivilized and unruly”.
The chiefdom has requested to lead a delegation of 30 to Among’s office for a physical meeting to offer their apology.
