The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has launched a protest today, demanding transparency over the health status of opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye and calling for his immediate transfer to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

The protest comes amid growing fears over Besigye’s deteriorating health with medical professionals accusing authorities of withholding critical information about his condition.

UMA, a body representing Uganda’s medical professionals has strongly criticized government’s handling of the situation warning that any delay in providing adequate medical care could put Besigye’s life at risk.

Uganda Medical Association’s concerns were triggered by reports of Besigye’s worsening condition with sources claiming he has been denied proper medical attention.

Besigye has been in and out of detention over the years due to his political activism against President Museveni’s rule.

UMA demands a full medical report detailing Besigye’s current condition, unrestricted access to independent doctors and immediate transfer to Mulago Hospital for specialized care.

While government officials have not officially responded to UMA’s demands, Besigye’s supporters have taken to social media, calling the situation a deliberate act of political oppression.

Some activists from Museveni’s hometown have threatened to protests if Besigye remains in detention.

With pressure mounting from medical professionals and the opposition, the government faces a critical decision:
