President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to visit Kasese district next week as part of his ongoing nationwide tour to monitor the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM).

The visit scheduled as a key checkpoint in Uganda’s ambitious poverty alleviation strategy which aims to assess the impact of the program, engage with local leaders and address any challenges hindering progress.

Parish Development Model introduced by the government as a grassroots economic empowerment strategy seeking to lift Ugandans out of the subsistence economy.

Museveni’s visit to Kasese is expected to provide firsthand insights into how the program is performing in one of Uganda’s most diverse and economically challenged districts.

Kasese is a district with a mix of urban and rural communities with unique development challenges ranging from land conflicts to unemployment and environmental disasters like floods from the Rwenzori Mountains.

The district has been identified as a key focus area where PDM could significantly impact household incomes and livelihoods.

Museveni’s visit is seen as a critical moment to gauge the initiative’s success in providing financial inclusion, infrastructure development and agricultural modernization.

During his visit, President Museveni is expected to meet with district leaders, local farmers and PDM beneficiaries. Reports suggest that he will address issues related to delayed funding, bureaucratic inefficiencies and accountability concerns that have slowed the program’s rollout in some areas.

Additionally, he may announce new measures to enhance the effectiveness of the initiative and ensure funds reach the intended communities.

While the PDM has been widely praised for its vision, opposition argue that its implementation has been marred by corruption, mismanagement and political interference.

Some opposition figures claim that Museveni’s tour is more about political consolidation than actual economic transformation.

Meanwhile, supporters of the initiative see his hands-on approach as a testament to his commitment to grassroots development.

Museveni’s national tour to monitor the PDM comes at a time when Uganda is grappling with economic pressures including inflation and youth unemployment.

His visit to Kasese is not just about checking progress it’s about reinforcing the government’s economic agenda and reassuring Ugandans that the model is working.
