Iganga, Uganda – National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially inaugurated its Eastern Region Headquarters in Iganga District, a move the party says underscores its commitment to building strong grassroots structures ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The event, which attracted a large gathering of supporters and well-wishers, was presided over by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), alongside senior party leaders, Members of Parliament, and the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi.
Speaking at the launch, NUP leaders hailed the new office as a home for the struggle in Eastern Uganda, a region they say has long been marginalized by the current regime.
“We have been able to arrive at this milestone by working round the clock, without being distracted by the regime. The Eastern region deserves better, an inclusive economy where resources are decentralized and every citizen gets a fair share of the national cake,” the party said in a statement.
NUP manifesto highlights regional equity as a key pillar, promising to channel national resources beyond Kampala and Buganda to uplift underserved areas such as Busoga, Teso, and Karamoja.
Bobi Wine reiterated that the opening of the Eastern Headquarters is not just symbolic but strategic in mobilizing change-hungry citizens.
The launch comes amid increasing political activity from both NRM and opposition parties as Uganda gears up for the 2026 elections. Analysts note that the establishment of regional offices strengthens NUP’s organizational capacity and signals its determination to challenge NRM’s traditional dominance in the east.
The Iganga headquarters will serve as a coordination hub for party activities, community outreach, and campaign mobilization in the region.
