Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with a viral video that allegedly referenced criminal activities along Jinja Road and in Banda, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the recording continue.

The suspect, identified by police as Wafula Solomon, was arrested on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at around 12:00 p.m. by officers attached to Banda Police Post, according to the Uganda Police Force.

Police said Wafula is a resident of Banda Zone III, Banda Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

According to a statement issued by the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and other online platforms in which the suspect allegedly made references to criminal activities taking place in Banda and along Jinja Road.

“On 25 June 2026 at about 12:00 noon, officers from Banda Police Post arrested a suspect in connection with a viral video circulating on social media, including on X, in which the individual appeared to make references to criminal activities allegedly taking place along Jinja Road and within Banda,” the police statement reads.

Police emphasized that the arrest forms part of ongoing investigations aimed at establishing how the video was made and whether the suspect or any of the individuals mentioned in the recording have any connection to criminal activities reported in the area.

Authorities have not announced any formal charges against Wafula and have not concluded that he committed any of the crimes referred to in the video.

Investigators are examining whether the content of the recording merely referenced criminal activity or whether it could be linked to actual offences committed along Jinja Road and its surrounding areas.

Owoyesigyire confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody.

“He is currently in custody as investigations continue, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law,” he said.

Police also used the incident to caution members of the public against creating or sharing online content that could be interpreted as promoting or glorifying crime.

“Members of the public are cautioned against producing, sharing, or circulating content that glorifies or promotes crime,” Owoyesigyire said.

The warning comes amid increasing scrutiny of social media content by law enforcement agencies, particularly posts or videos that authorities believe may encourage criminal behaviour or interfere with public security.
