Buganda Road Court has ordered the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to arrest Isaac Ssemakadde the President of the Uganda Law Society. He failed to appear in court to answer charges of allegedly insulting the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo.

This shocking move follows his repeated failure to appear in court despite multiple criminal summons and an existing arrest warrant.

Ssemakadde a hothead lawyer known for his fearless critique of Uganda’s legal and political establishment has been at odds with the judiciary for years.

However, today’s court decision takes his legal troubles to an international level suggesting that authorities believe he may have fled the country or is deliberately evading arrest.

While Interpol does not have the power to enforce arrests, its notices alert law enforcement agencies worldwide to detain wanted individuals upon entry into any jurisdiction that cooperates with Uganda.

His outspoken nature and relentless criticism of the government and judiciary have made him a controversial figure drawing both admiration and hostility in equal measure.

Ssemakadde is no ordinary lawyer. Often referred to as “Uganda’s Legal Rebel,” he has built a reputation for taking on cases that challenge state power defending activists, journalists and opposition figures.

His sharp legal mind, combined with his unfiltered often provocative social media presence has made him a major player in Uganda’s legal and political landscape.

But his outspoken defiance has also put him in direct confrontation with authorities, leading to multiple legal battles.
