KAMPALA, Uganda
National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter Edward Ssebuufu, commonly known as Eddie Mutwe, alongside several other party supporters, appeared at Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday for a bail hearing in a case linked to alleged unlawful military-style training activities.
Among those reported to have appeared before court are Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, Eddie Mutwe, Bobi Giant, and other co-accused persons facing charges connected to what has been publicly described as an “unlawful drilling” case.
Supporters and relatives gathered around court premises ahead of the bail application hearing, hoping for the release of the accused.
However, updates from individuals at the scene indicated that relatives of the 22 NUP supporters involved in the case were reportedly denied access to the court premises during proceedings at Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The accused are among a group of NUP supporters facing charges related to allegations of engaging in unauthorized military-style drills or activities.
The case has drawn public and political attention because several of the accused are associated with Uganda’s leading opposition party.
Court proceedings involving opposition supporters in Uganda have frequently attracted scrutiny from political actors, rights groups, and supporters concerned about due process and access to justice.
