Nsereko Calls for Medical Support for Speaker Anita Among

KAMPALA, Uganda

Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko has publicly called on the government to facilitate medical treatment for Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, saying he is concerned about her health and urging leaders to rally behind her.

Speaking during an online address, Nsereko said he had recently seen the Speaker and was worried about her condition. He claimed that her feet appeared severely swollen and alleged that she was suffering from a blood clot in one of her legs.

However, no official statement had been issued by Among, Parliament, or her medical team to confirm the claims.

Nsereko appealed to government officials to allow the Speaker to seek specialized medical treatment abroad if necessary. He argued that leaders should support colleagues facing health challenges rather than remain silent.

The legislator also criticized what he described as a lack of public concern from fellow Members of Parliament. He said it would be unfortunate if leaders only paid tribute to the Speaker after her death while failing to support her during a difficult period.

“If she needs help now, this is the time to stand with her,” Nsereko said, according to remarks shared on social media.

The MP further warned that the government’s handling of such situations could affect public confidence in national institutions. He argued that citizens and political leaders alike need assurance that they will receive support and care when faced with serious challenges.

Anita Among, who serves as Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, remains one of the country’s most influential political figures. She has led the legislature since 2022 and has played a central role in parliamentary proceedings and national policy debates.

As of publication, neither the Office of the Speaker nor Parliament had issued an official statement regarding the health concerns raised by Nsereko. Efforts to independently verify the claims had not yielded confirmation.

The remarks have since sparked discussion on social media, with some Ugandans expressing concern and others calling for official clarification regarding the Speaker’s condition.
