The Electoral Commission has announced the official roadmap for upcoming Local Council and Women Council elections, setting out key dates for voter registration updates and polling across the country.
The press briefing, confirms that the election process will run in phases ahead of polling in July 2026.
According to the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Simon Byabakama, the national voters’ register update for LC1, LC2 and Women Council elections will take place from July 6 to July 10, 2026, covering all 71,214 villages across Uganda.
Polling for Women Council elections has been scheduled for July 23, 2026, while voting for Local Council (LC1 and LC2) chairpersons is set for July 28, 2026, according to reports from different media briefings of the Commission’s roadmap.
The Commission also confirmed that voting will be carried out using the open queue system, where voters line up behind their preferred candidates, their agents, or official portraits of candidates.
Elections will involve grassroots leadership structures, including village-level LC1 leaders, sub-county LC2 leaders, and Women Council representatives. These positions play a key role in local governance, dispute resolution, and community administration across Uganda.
The announcement provides clarity on Uganda’s grassroots electoral calendar, giving time for voter registration updates, candidate preparation, and campaign planning ahead of the 2026 polling cycle.
Electoral Commission says the roadmap is intended to ensure smooth coordination of activities across all districts and villages in the country.
