Kampala, Uganda – Anti-Corruption Court has issued an arrest warrant for a Parliament staff member who is facing allegations related to the misuse of public funds.
Stella Itute, an Office Supervisor attached to the Sergeant-at-Arms department of Parliament, was ordered to appear before court to answer charges linked to the alleged embezzlement of Parliament funds.
The warrant was issued after Ms Itute failed to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala, according to reports from court proceedings.
She is among several senior employees of Parliament facing corruption-related charges, with the cases returning to court for mention as the judicial process continues.
The charges against Ms Itute have not been proven in court. Under Ugandan law, accused persons are presumed innocent until convicted by a court of law.
This case forms part of wider investigations into alleged corruption involving officials working at Uganda’s Parliament.
Anti-corruption authorities have in recent years increased scrutiny of public institutions, with Parliament itself facing calls for greater accountability over the management of public resources.
The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms is responsible for security, order and administrative functions within Parliament, making cases involving staff in the department a matter of public interest.
During the latest court session, officials returned for mention of their cases as the court continues to monitor progress in the investigations and legal proceedings.
The Anti-Corruption Court handles cases involving corruption, abuse of office, embezzlement and other offences involving public resources.
Authorities have repeatedly stated that the fight against corruption requires accountability across all government institutions, while civil society groups have called for transparent and fair investigations.
The court is expected to issue further directions on the next steps in the cases as proceedings continue.
Ms Itute and other accused officials will have an opportunity to respond to the allegations through the judicial process.
