Thousands Gather for NRM SIGs Conference at Kololo

Kampala, Uganda – Thousands of National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates today converged at Kololo Independence Grounds for the official opening of the party’s National Conference for Special Interest Groups (SIGs), presided over by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The conference, organized by the NRM Secretariat, brought together representatives from youth, women, persons with disabilities, workers, and older persons across the country. Party officials said the event is intended to consolidate the participation of Special Interest Groups in shaping the NRM agenda ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“Special Interest Groups are at the heart of our movement’s inclusivity. This conference provides a platform for their voices to be heard and for resolutions that will guide the future of the party,” said the Secretary General Richard Todwong

The gathering is expected to feature keynote addresses by senior party leaders, plenary discussions, and the adoption of resolutions under the theme Protecting the Gains of the NRM’s 39-year rule.

According to the Secretariat, these deliberations will focus on strengthening party structures, mobilization strategies, and reaffirming the NRM’s long-term political vision.

The NRM, in power since 1986 under the leadership of President Museveni, maintains that its record of stability, infrastructure development, and social programs forms the basis of its political legitimacy.

However, the SIGs conference takes place against a backdrop of heightened political activity, with opposition parties also unveiling strategies for the 2026 polls.
