Democratic Front Welcomes Politicians Dropped by NRM and NUP

Kampala, Uganda – Democratic Front (DF) is opening its doors to candidates sidelined by Uganda’s dominant parties, NRM and NUP, offering them a chance to continue their political ambitions under the DF banner.

DF Electoral Commission Chair Henry Lubowa said the party has extended its nomination period to accommodate these rejected aspirants.

“We are giving aspirants an opportunity to pick up DF tickets,” Lubowa said.

The move comes amid growing frustration among candidates who failed to secure nominations during party primaries or vetting processes within NRM and NUP.

Many aspirants, especially in parliamentary and local council races, have voiced concerns over alleged unfair practices, political favoritism, and the limited availability of party tickets.

The move has already attracted interest from across the country, with nominations pouring in from Masaka, Greater Masaka, Mayuge, and beyond, as the party ramps up its nationwide campaign ahead of the 2026 elections.

DF has kicked off grassroots nomination exercises covering regions including Greater Masaka, Acholi, Lango, Busoga, Bukedi, and Teso.

According to party officials, more than 287 aspirants have been cleared for parliamentary and local council contests so far, though presidential hopefuls have yet to submit their nomination forms. Analysts suggest that this could be a tactical delay, as DF continues to court high-profile figures who may be weighing their options after being denied tickets by NRM or NUP.
