National Unity Platform are planning countrywide mobilisation following the release of the 2026 general elections roadmap by the Electoral Commission.
The opposition political party is plotting to kick off their mobilisation tours in May to consolidate ground ahead of the upcoming electoral period.
According to Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, National Unity Platform will embark on voter registration exercise countrywide. The party hopes to introduce an electronic voter register that will be easily accessible by voters.
“We shall introduce an e-registry instead of using the red books that we have been using previously. All you need is your national ID, and you will be allocated a registration number which is your identity,” he said.
Ssenyonyi disregarded reports that the National Resistance Movement claimed to have 18 million members following their recent voter registration exercise. He argued the Electoral Commission registry has seventeen million voters.
“They are playing psychological games so that when they rig elections, they will claim they already had the numbers,” he said.
According to observers, National Unity Platform’s image has derailed by the rift between party president Robert Kyagulanyi and his deputy Mathias Mpuuga and could face tough to harmonize in Buganda political region. The tour is reportedly meant to give assurance to the public on the matter.
In related development, former Forum for Democratic Change president Kizza Besigye has hit the ground running holding nation wide mobilisation meetings.
Besigye recently announced his return to active politics ahead of the 2026 elections.
