President Museveni appoints son as Chief of Defence Forces

President Yoweri Museveni also Commander in-chief has appointed his son Gen Kainerugaba Muhoozi as the Chief of Defense Forces. 

The announcement was made Thursday evening following a cabinet reshuffle in which Gen Mbadi the former CDF was appointed as Minister of State for Cooperatives. 

Mbadi was appointed CDF in June, 2021.

He had served in different positions in the UPDF, including as aide de camp to the president, Fourth Infantry Division commander, Joint Chief of Staff (JCOS) and deputy Chief of Defence Forces (DCDF). 

According to the latest reports from UPDF, Gen Salim Saleh will oversee the handover of Gen Mbadi to Gen Muhoozi. After the ceremony, Muhoozi will take charge of the army command and confirm his new command structure.

The new army includes Lt Gen Sam Okiding as the Deputy CDF, replacing Gen Peter Elwelu has been appointed presidential advisor.

Museveni appointed UPDF Chief of Staff Land Force Maj Gen Jack Agonza Bakasumba to  Joint Chief of Staff.

Bakasumba takes over from Major General Leopold Kyanda who will serve as a defence attache in a yet-to-be-known country. 

 Special Forces commander, Brigadier David Mugisha  has been elevated to the rank of Major Genera while Col Asaph Nyakikuru was also promoted from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier in the Special Forces Command structure.
