M7 takes Campaign to Lango

Published

on

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is in Lango today on his meet-the-people tours.

The president is inspecting the progress of his term’s flagship project- the Parish Development Model (PDM).

The tour is expected to highlight Uganda’s grassroots transformation agenda while addressing lingering questions about the model’s impact.

The Parish Development Model (PDM) was aimed at lifting Ugandans out of subsistence farming by promoting commercial agriculture and enterprise.

However, its implementation has faced scrutiny. Many farmers complain about delayed funding, lack of awareness, and corruption in the process.

Project launches

Another highlight of Museveni’s visit is the launch of the Akii-Bua Stadium, a project that has been in the pipeline for years.

Named after Uganda’s first Olympic gold medalist, John Akii-Bua, the stadium is expected to boost sports development in northern Uganda.

With youth unemployment still a pressing issue, Museveni’s unveiling of the Lango Skilling Hub could offer hope for thousands seeking vocational training.

If well-executed, the initiative could empower young people with practical skills in fields like mechanics, carpentry, and IT.

As President Museveni embarks on this tour, he faces a region filled with both optimism and skepticism. While the projects being launched signal progress, their long-term success depends on implementation, accountability, and real economic impact.

Amongi- Aceng duel

The president’s visit to Lango can also not escape the high-octane political battle between the Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, and Member of Parliament for Oyam South against the Minister for Health Jane Ruth Aceng, Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City.

The former, has decided to run against the Minister of Health abandoning her constituency of Oyam South.

This duel has led to tension in the region, as both women are close to the president who will wish to have the region solidly behind him.

Museveni has had to play this balancing act in Busoga when he visited Rebecca Kadaga’s district.

Kadaga’s seat as the second Vice Chairperson of the NRM party is under onslaught from the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

Museveni’s PDM tours are happening at a time the country is preparing for general elections, months away.
