After four days of incommunicado detention and alleged torture, NUP’s head of mobilization Chairman Nyanzi Fred , the brother to NUP President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has been found dumped near his home.

Opposition leader Bobi Wine broke the news on social media thanking supporters for amplifying calls for Nyanzi’s release while urging Ugandans to “KEEP THE PRESSURE ON. FREE UGANDA.”

Meanwhile, more opposition members remain missing like Achileo Kivumbi and Wakabi Smart were spotted in a police van at Nansana heavily guarded by security operatives.

Another activist Gaddafi remains unaccounted for after being abducted in broad daylight. The chilling pattern of arrests, disappearances and alleged torture has reignited the fear of state brutality ahead of the 2026 elections.

According to reports from National Unity Platform (NUP) officials, Chairman Nyanzi Fred was forcefully taken by security operatives and detained in an undisclosed location where he was subjected to torture.

His sudden reappearance, weak and bruised has drawn widespread condemnation from opposition figures and human rights activists.

“After 4 days of incommunicado detention and torture, our head of mobilisation Chairman Nyanzi Fred has been driven from CMI torture chambers and dumped near his home! Thank you all for raising your voices.”  Bobi Wine stated on X

This latest incident adds to a growing list of forced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and state-sanctioned violence targeting opposition members in Uganda.

Chairman Nyanzi’s release does not mark the end of arrests but the disappearance of Achileo Kivumbi, Wakabi Smart, and Gaddafi raises urgent questions.

“Comrades Achileo Kivumbi and Wakabi Smart who were abducted last night have been seen at Nansana police in a van with heavily armed security operatives! They are still under captivity. Meanwhile, comrade Gaddafi who was abducted this morning is still missing.” says Bobi Wine

Security forces have not issued any statements on these arrests nor have they provided legal justifications for the continued detentions. Many fear that these activists are facing torture and inhumane treatment in undisclosed locations, a practice that has become increasingly common under President Museveni’s rule.

With 2026 general elections looming, the government appears to be systematically dismantling opposition networks through fear, violence, and arbitrary arrests.

For years, President Museveni’s administration has been accused of using the military and intelligence agencies to silence political protests.

The latest wave of enforced disappearances is similar to previous election cycles where opposition members were routinely abducted, detained without trial.

Despite the escalating abductions, Bobi Wine and his supporters remain defiant. The #FreeUganda campaign continues to trend with activists demanding the release of all political prisoners and an end to state brutality.

Bobi Wine’s message remains clear. “We expect anything from the cowardly regime – BUT WE ARE NOT INTIMIDATED!”
