The Electoral Commission (EC) in Uganda is under intense pressure after nearly two weeks of silence regarding the gazettement of Kawempe North MP-elect Elias Nalukoola.

This morning, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya accompanied by Nalukoola and party lawyer George Musisi visited EC offices in Kampala to demand answers on the prolonged delay.

“We are here to ask why the EC has not fulfilled its legal obligation to gazette our MP-elect. The people of Kawempe North deserve answers,” Rubongoya said.

However, EC assured the delegation that the gazette will soon be out paving way for Nalukoola’s swearing-in.

The delay has fueled widespread speculation, with many opposition supporters alleging political interference aimed at frustrating opposition leaders.

While EC insists that procedural formalities must be observed, it has yet to provide a definitive timeline for when Nalukoola will officially assume office.

This situation has reignited concerns over transparency and impartiality within Uganda’s electoral processes.

Legal experts warn that any further delay could lead to constitutional challenges, as the prolonged absence of an elected representative undermines the democratic will of the people.

EC now finds itself at the center of a heated debate, with opposition figures demanding transparency and accountability.
