Kampala, Uganda – The Justice Forum (JEEMA), one of Uganda’s most vocal opposition political parties has suspended its former spokesperson Abdulnoor Ssentongo Kyamundu as internal cracks within the party widen into a full-blown leadership crisis.

The announcement came from JEEMA’s party chairman Mr. Kibirige Majanya who said the decision was made following “deep internal disputes” that have rocked the party’s leadership structures.

The suspension was carried out under the direct guidance of party president and Bugiri Municipality MP, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa.

“Mr. Kyamundu has been temporarily suspended pending further investigation,” Chairman Majanya confirmed during a press briefing adding that the decision was not taken lightly.

The party’s disciplinary committee will now weigh in to determine whether Kyamundu will retain his membership or face permanent expulsion.

While the exact details of the dispute remain tightly guarded, insiders point to rising tensions over alleged insubordination, procedural breaches and public disagreements with the party line.

“Kyamundu had begun operating as if he was above party structures. The suspension was long overdue.”

The Justice Forum, long seen as a principled party committed to social justice and rule of law, now finds itself grappling with internal contradictions that could damage its public credibility ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Observers note that this suspension could either be a step toward discipline and structure or a trigger for further crack among the party’s faithful.

However, Kyamundu has remained tight-lipped, neither confirming nor denying the allegations. Sources close to him say he intends to challenge the suspension, citing unfair treatment and lack of due process.

Party president Asuman Basalirwa, currently one of the more respected opposition figures in Parliament, faces an uphill task in holding JEEMA together. As the symbolic and strategic head of the party, Basalirwa has worked hard to keep JEEMA relevant in a political climate dominated by the ruling party NRM and the increasingly NUP influence.

Basalirwa, who did not address the media directly on this matter is said to have sanctioned the move as part of a larger plan to restructure and refocus the party’s leadership hierarchy before the 2026 elections.

Political analysts warn that if not managed carefully, Kyamundu fallout could isolate young supporters and erode public confidence in JEEMA’s ability to lead with transparency and discipline.

“This may look like a simple suspension, but it could have ripple effects, Voters are watching closely. Any sign of disorganization could cost JEEMA its political influence.”
