Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has revealed that at least 72 out of 110 opposition Members of Parliament have signed a resolution distancing themselves from the Shs100 million ‘cash bonanza’ payout.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament, Ssenyonyi also threw down the glove, daring those behind the handout scandal to publicly name and shame legislators especially opposition MPs who allegedly received the money but are now hiding behind the resolution to save face.

The Shs100 million cash scandal reportedly received by several MPs under unclear circumstances has stirred anger among the public and ignited political fireworks within the opposition.

While 72 MPs have boldly distanced themselves from the alleged cash handout, suspicions linger that some of the signatories may, in fact, have benefited from the payout but are now attempting to cleanse their reputations with the resolution.

“Let the truth come out! If anyone has evidence that some of our own took the money, name them. Don’t hide in corners. Let Ugandans know who is standing on principle and who is playing political theatre,” Ssenyonyi passionately declared.

The timing of this scandal is deeply troubling. With Uganda fast approaching the next electoral season, citizens are increasingly demanding transparency and genuine leadership.

The opposition, long regarded as the moral compass against corruption is now facing its own internal test of accountability.

The resolution signed by the 72 opposition MPs comes amid growing public pressure and backlash.

While the NRM side has remained largely tight-lipped, the focus has shifted to the opposition which has built its identity around championing integrity and challenging state corruption.

The possibility that some may have secretly accepted the cash while preaching clean politics has set off alarms across the political spectrum.

This saga is more than just about money, it’s about trust, hypocrisy and the fight for political integrity in parliament.
