Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi broke his silence on the rising indiscipline and internal tension within the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, sending political shockwaves across Uganda’s political landscape.
“We would rather lose an election than have a cast of leaders who are all over the place and indisciplined,” declared Muwanga Kivumbi, MP for Butambala.
The remarks, delivered with a strong resolve and emotional clarity, signal a turning point in the ongoing ideological and strategic wrangles within opposition ranks particularly NUP and other opposition coalitions.
In recent months, opposition unity has been under scrutiny. Whispers of betrayal, ideological drift and internal sabotage have surfaced repeatedly. Hon. Kivumbi’s candid reflections this morning come at a time when pressure is mounting within NUP over what some have termed as a “crisis of leadership and loyalty.”
Without naming names, the MP hinted at betrayal by party insiders and criticized the rise of performative politics over substance.
“Some people think ordinary people are not clever. But Ugandans are mature. You don’t engage in PR on serious national issues,” he warned.
In a rare moment of vulnerability, Hon. Kivumbi acknowledged the emotional toll the political chaos has taken on him.
“Some of these members are my dear friends,” he admitted, adding, “You have no idea how much I have reached out on a personal level to prevent this.”
But friendship, he insists, cannot override party discipline and national interest.
“The time has come when the party position must take the front seat.”
This deeply personal revelation paints a man caught between loyalty to individuals and commitment to principle, a tension all too familiar in Uganda’s deeply factionalized political environment.
Muwanga Kivumbi’s message is clear that a disciplined, focused and principled front is non-negotiable even if it costs them an election.
Uganda’s opposition has long been accused of internal fightings, ego clashes and lacking a unified vision. Hon. Kivumbi’s comments reveal a brewing removal, a decisive effort to restore order, direction and purpose in NUP.
His appeal goes beyond party politics. It’s a call to rethink leadership, restore values and respect the intelligence of the Ugandan voter.
In a political era dominated by social media noise and PR stunts, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi’s raw honesty cuts through like a blade. His willingness to put principle over popularity is rare and perhaps, just what Uganda needs right now.
