NRM’s Faridah Nambi Battles to Overturn Kawempe North Results

Kampala, Uganda – On Monday, May 19, in a highly charged statement outside court, Mr. Ahmed Kalule the lead counsel for NRM’s Faridah Nambi dropped what could be a game-changing revelation that over 16,000 ballots were allegedly never counted. And he says that is enough reason to annul the election of NUP’s Elias Nalukoola.

“We believe we have convinced the judge to annul the election,” Kalule confidently told journalists shortly after filing final submissions in the recent Kawempe North election petition.

The March 13 by-election triggered by a court-ordered repeat, quickly transferred into what many described as a political warzone. Reports of violence, voter intimidation and ballot disruptions plagued the constituency with several observers questioning the integrity of the process from the start.

The official results declared NUP’s Elias Nalukoola the winner, a victory the ruling NRM was clearly not ready to accept without a fight.

According to Ms. Nambi’s legal team over 16,640 votes were mysteriously unaccounted for, results from 14 polling stations went completely missing and the alleged ballot disruption was linked to goons who reportedly vandalized electoral materials, a move Kalule claims was orchestrated by top NRM officials ironically, her own party.

“This is not just about politics, it’s about the right of every Ugandan to vote and be heard,” said Kalule. “When over 16,000 voters are shut out, democracy is mugged.”

One of the most shocking accusations in this case is that the electoral sabotage was carried out by elements within Nambi’s own NRM party.

While Kalule did not give names, he hinted at internal betrayals and a betrayal of democratic values within the party itself. This places the ruling party in a difficult spotlight, one where its own members allegedly undermined a fellow flagbearer.

NUP camp has so far remained guarded, though insiders have dismissed the petition as a desperate move to snatch back a seat they clearly lost.
