Rajiv Ruparelia Son of Business Mogul Sudhir Dies in Horrific Car Accident

Kampala, Uganda – Uganda is rocked by the sudden and tragic death of Rajiv Ruparelia, the son of business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia who perished in a devastating road crash in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025.

The 35-year-old, known for his vibrant energy, sharp business insight, and love for motorsport was driving a white Nissan GTR (registration UAT 638L) when the vehicle overturned and caught fire at Busabala flyover around 1:54 a.m., according to a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.

Police say the accident was a single fatal crash. Rajiv’s high-performance sports car is believed to have lost control at high speed before flipping and igniting.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene but Rajiv was already confirmed dead. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Born into one of Uganda’s most powerful families, Rajiv was more than just the son of a tycoon, he was a rising star in his own right. As Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, he spearheaded ventures in real estate, hospitality, education, agriculture and banking, working to modernize and expand the family empire with a youthful vision.

Only 35, Rajiv had become an icon for young Ugandan entrepreneurs, admired for his mix of charm, ambition and social consciousness.

Educated in the UK and India, Rajiv had seamlessly blended global exposure with local action. His fingerprints were all over Kampala’s skyline, from landmark real estate projects to motorsport sponsorships.

He also played a visible role in philanthropy, championing youth development and access to education. He was expected to succeed his father, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, as the head of the billion-dollar conglomerate but now, that future has been shattered.
