PLU Leaders Directed to Attend Planned Demonstration at Turkish Embassy

KAMPALA, Uganda

Leaders within the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have been directed to participate in a planned demonstration at the Turkish Embassy, according to a directive shared by PLU Secretary General  Daudi Kabanda.

In the directive, Kabanda instructed members of the party’s Central Committee (CC) to lead the planned protest and emphasized mandatory attendance for appointed leaders within the organization.

“A demonstration will be held at the Turkish Embassy. CC members are expected to lead this demonstration,” the directive stated.

According to the communication, only the party chairman and the director of legal affairs were exempted from participation, while all appointed leaders were instructed to attend. The directive further warned that failure to participate would be treated as resignation from leadership responsibilities within the organization.

The communication did not specify the exact date and time of the demonstration, nor did it provide details regarding the reasons behind the planned protest at the Turkish Embassy.

It also remains unclear whether organizers have formally notified security agencies or sought authorization for the demonstration, as required under Uganda’s public order regulations.

The Patriotic League of Uganda has increasingly emerged as an influential political organization in Uganda’s political landscape, with several prominent figures associated with the movement playing active roles in public affairs.

Public demonstrations targeting foreign diplomatic missions are relatively uncommon in Uganda and often attract attention due to their diplomatic implications and security considerations.

As of publication, neither the Turkish Embassy nor Ugandan authorities had publicly commented on the planned demonstration or the directive circulated among PLU members.
