IGG Arrests Seven Senior Parliament Officials Over Corruption Allegations

Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested seven senior officials from Parliament over allegations of corruption and related offences, with the suspects expected to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court.

According to a statement shared by the Inspectorate, those arrested include senior administrative and technical officials within Parliament, among them Director of Communications Chris Obore and Director of Human Resource Daniel Adilo.

Others listed are Okema Leonard, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker; Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer; Okwi Emmanuel Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer; Otebata Vincent, Capacity Development Officer; and Murebe Methods, Chief Executive Officer of the Parliamentary SACCO.

The IGG confirmed that the officials were arrested following investigations into alleged corruption-related activities, and that they are set to be formally charged and presented before the Anti-Corruption Court.

Earlier reports suggested heavy security deployment at the Inspectorate offices during the operation.

The developments have drawn significant public attention given the seniority of the officials involved and the central role of Parliament in oversight and accountability of public funds.

As of publication, Parliament had not issued an official statement responding to the arrests, and the accused officials had not yet been formally charged in court.

Inspectorate of Government has in recent months intensified its anti-corruption enforcement operations targeting public institutions and government agencies.
